KUALA NERUS, 27 October – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has officially established a partnership with Malaysia Financial Planning Council (MFPC) following the signing of an MoA, hence allowing the university to offer to its students from the Bachelor of Finances with Honors (Faculty of Business, Economy, and Social Development) academic courses that have been recognized as being equivalent to the modules used by MFPC for its Registered Financial Planner certification.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor ChM. Dr. Marinah Mohd Ariffin, currently performing the function of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), said the partnership provides UMT students, especially those from the Bachelor of Finances, to obtain the professional certificate when they graduate.

“The certificate will provide an added value for UMT students following the programme and will increase their employability”.

She said the students are required to take six courses that have considered as being equivalent to RFP Modules 1 – 6.

“Meanwhile, Module 7 (last module) will be taken by the students before graduating, with the suggested time being while the students are in their fifth semester”

She said UMT will coordinate the preparatory class for Module 7.

Through the strategic collaboration, students will also have the opportunity to undergo industrial training at licensed financial firms certified by Malaysia Securities Commission through the Financial Planning Internship Programme.

Through the UMT-MFPC MoA, added Dr. Marinah, UMT will have the opportunity to become one of the education providers for RFP and Shariah RFP courses.

“As such UMT will be able to offer the courses as stand-alone courses in the East Coast,” she said.
