Kuala Terengganu – Dato’ Idham Nawawi, a native of Kampung Tanjung Bunut, Kuala Terengganu, has succeeded in proving that one’s origin should not be a barrier to achieving success.
From a village boy growing up in a moderate environment, he is now at the top of corporate success as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CelcomDigi. His inspirational story serves as proof that each individual has the ability to achieve success with hard work and determination, even if one must start from the bottom.
Dato’ Idham’s academic journey began at Bukit Tunggal Primary School before he furthered his study at Mara Junior Science College (MRSM). After that, he had the opportunity to continue his study at tertiary level in engineering at the University of Rochester, U.S.A, then at master’s level in communication at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
Dato’ Idham became a well-known figure with plenty of experiences in the global corporate world after having worked with several multinational companies. His perseverance and determination eventually landed him the appointment as CelcomDigi CEO, an achievement that should become an inspiration to young people, especially students of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).
As UMT’s CEO@Faculty, Dato’ Idham recently appeared in a special public lecture programme organized by UMT, where he shared his experience with the students and also gave valuable advice. In his inspirational speech, he urged the students to be brave when building their career, without letting their background and their field of study become a barrier.
He stressed the importance of doing the right things the right way. To him many individuals do the right things but not in the right way, leading to less than expected results.
Dato’ Idham also reminded the students to always challenge themselves to do something new. According to him, every challenge faced is an opportunity for building self potential. He also shared about his experience working in various corporate sectors locally and overseas, which has given him valuable perspectives and diverse experiences.
In addition, in a friendly tone he urged the students to read books in various genres including fictions and science fictions.
“Reading different types of materials can improve our creativity and critical thinking, which are important in our life and career,” he said.
