During the recent launching of MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim announced the latest recognition for research laboratories at the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries (AKUATROP), making it the fourth institute at UMT to have received the accreditation certification from the Department of Standards Malaysia.
The recognition serves as proof of UMT’s commitment towards research and innovation activities that comply with the international standards. MS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 consists of lab management and service standards that have been recognized globally, which ensures that UMT laboratories are able to provide high quality services that meet the needs of customers and the latest regulations.

“Effective quality management helps UMT improve work efficiency and contribute towards excellent services and academic achievement.”
“In an effort to increase its global competitiveness, UMT has had four of its laboratories being accredited, including AKUATROP’s Aquatic Nutritional Technology Laboratory. The recognition has also fortified AKUATROP’s status as a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) for aquaculture and fisheries,” he said.
According to Prof. Zamri, UMT intends to infuse creativity and innovation in work procedures, focussing on high quality research outcomes that benefit society and the nation.
