KUALA NERUS, 6 January 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is actively spreading the awareness campaign on cyber safety as part of the measures to prevent society from being victims of frauds and personal identity theft.
The effort is part of the Service Learning Malaysia – University for Society (SULAM) initiative to increase the awareness among students and society towards ever-expanding cyber threats and to strengthen digital safety.
According to Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics Professor Ts. Dr. Muhammad Suzuri Hitam, the programme combines the cyber safety theories learned in class with the actual experience through community interactions.
“In this Cyber Safety Awareness Programme, we focus on cyber threats such as phishing attacks, malware, and data safety measures.
“In addition to talks, the programme also offers interactive activities such as cyber attack simulation, data safety workshop, and sharing sessions with experts. Participants have the opportunity to understand about how to identify cyber threats and precautionary steps to take for protection.”
Meanwhile, lecturer with the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics Dr. Waheed Ali Hussein Mohammed Ghanem said it is important to take precautions in the digital world.
“It is our responsibility to be aware of cyber safety. I hope this programme will be beneficial and help build society that knows how to be safe in the virtual world,” he said.
Through this programme, UMT demonstrates its commitment in producing graduates who are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also that concerning the digital world which will lead to better society.
