As part of the effort to increase the understanding and awareness of UMT’s Board of Directors towards the current issues in higher education learning and outline the strategies and directions for 2025, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) organized a retreat programme for its Board of Directors.
The event on 13 – 15 December at the Swiss Bellhotel Kuantan was also attended by UMT’s principal and senior officers.
UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim in his welcoming speech during the programme shared about the current scenario regarding UMT’s achievement and hoped new ideas and initiatives could be developed for each of the thrusts under UMT’s Strategic Plan to further catapult UMT to greater heights. He welcomed the views and recommendations from the Board of Directors in steering UMT towards excellence.
During the workshop eight thrusts under UMT’s Strategic Plan were presented, these being Talent Empowerment, Teaching and Learning Excellence, Student Development, Research and Innovation, Knowledge Transfer and Industry Linkages, Global Visibility, Campus Sustainability and Digitalization, and Citra Enhancement.
In addition, three presentations on other matters were made, namely Bukit Kor Campus Masterplan, Funding and Income Generation Strategies, and UMT Holdings: Issues and Strategies.
Two sharing sessions also took place to add interest to the workshop. A session titled Strategic Communications was conducted by Rita Irina Abd Wahab, Director, Regulatory & Corporate Affairs, Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad, while another titled Artificial Intelligence (AI) was led by Ir. Dr. Ahmad Nazir Harun, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer, The ECEOS Sdn. Bhd.
Chairman of Board of Directors Prof. Dr. Mohamad Salmi delivered the closing speech.
“U&Me Together – based on this tag line, I think this programme has been conducted well, and there was a mutual understanding,” he said. “All the views and recommendations from the Board of Directors were well received by the university management.”
“The plan is ready, so all that is needed now is to focus on the implementation of these outlined strategies,” he added.
