KUALA NERUS, 2 September – As early as 7.30 a.m., the atmosphere at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) campus was already filled with excitement as more than 400 participants gathered eagerly for the Brisk Walk Merdeka@UMT 2025 programme.

Dressed in colourful themed attire, some complete with Jalur Gemilang accessories, they made the event truly radiate with a vibrant patriotic atmosphere.

UMT Corporate Communications Director, Zukiferee Ibrahim, who spearheaded the programme, said this was the first time such an activity was organized.

Alhamdulillah, although this is among the first initiatives held in conjunction with the national month celebration, we received an overwhelming response and encouraging participation from the UMT community, comprising both staff and students,” he said.

The highlight of the day came when UMT Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, personally announced the list of lucky draw winners. Cheers and applause erupted each time a winning number was called.

Out of the 20 prizes prepared, the grand prize, a brand-new adult bicycle, was the most coveted and was eventually won by a staff member who was clearly surprised by her good fortune.

Other prizes, including smartwatches, electrical appliances, essential food hampers, jerseys, and tumblers, also delighted the lucky participants.

Two participants received special recognition as the winners of the best dressed male and female for showcasing their creativity in expressing patriotic spirit through their outfits.

“It is fun to gather like this. Not only do we get to exercise, but we also strengthen bonds with other members of the UMT community,” said participant Siti Nurain Muhmad.

More than just a leisure activity, Brisk Walk Merdeka@UMT 2025 proved that the UMT community remains spirited and united in embracing the national month. Every step taken today not only promoted health but also strengthened camaraderie and ignited love for the nation.
