This March edition of the UMT Newsletter carries special significance as it coincides with the official launch of the UMT Silver Jubilee: 25 Years Celebration. Officiated by our Pro-Chancellor, the occasion marks a defining milestone in the university’s journey, commemorating a quarter century of growth, perseverance, and institutional achievement, while setting the course for the next phase of UMT’s evolution.
Over the past twenty-five years, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu has progressively carved out a distinctive identity as a university dedicated to marine science, aquatic resources, and ocean-related scholarship.
As highlighted in the Vice-Chancellor’s recent annual address, UMT is well-positioned to play an even more strategic role in advancing Malaysia’s Blue Economy agenda. Through its research strengths, talent development, and engagement with industry and communities, the university continues to support national aspirations in harnessing ocean resources responsibly while safeguarding marine ecosystems for future generations.
The path ahead will undoubtedly present both challenges and opportunities. UMT enters this new chapter with confidence, strengthened by the dedication of its academic community, the achievements of its alumni, and the collective commitment of its students, researchers, and professional staff.
As we celebrate this significant milestone, the spirit of “UMT Togetherness” continues to inspire the university’s progress. It embodies the shared belief that UMT’s strength comes not only from its achievements but also from the unity, teamwork, and shared purpose that have shaped its path so far. With this spirit, UMT remains dedicated to advancing sustainable ocean development and expanding knowledge for the benefit of Malaysia and the global community.
