As we leaf through the pages of this month’s edition of our UMT Newsletter, it becomes clear how dynamic, resilient, and forward-looking our university community has grown. In that spirit, this issue features stories about UMT’s portal to discovery around the globe, in search of new knowledge, and its collaboration with others on nation-building based on an ethic shared by all humans.

From Pulau Bidong, where we facilitated the region’s first underwater radio broadcast live and underwater, to Kuala Lumpur, with an audience honored by His Royal Highness Sultan of Terengganu officiating the launch of Wakaf Kelestarian Alam: Terengganu Turtle Conservation and RHB Sukuk Dana Hafeez, these pages show how UMT continues to lead initiatives that blend science, community, and innovation for lasting change. 

Our news coverage of both the WUACD Student Exchange Program with Universitas Airlangga and the UMT Global Exchange: Bridging Minds program shows that our presence now reaches globally, as well as our commitment to preparing students for international leadership. These are the kinds of programs that demonstrate how student mobility and cross-cultural dialogue can foster ideas and create lasting partnerships. 

Not to be outdone is the article on the UMT Semarak Merdeka Programme 2025, where our students and staff demonstrated that patriotism is more than just words; it’s about action—paddling approximately 22 miles to Pulau Bidong and engaging in meaningful discussions on Malaysia MADANI. Programs like these remind us that UMT is shaping not only graduates but also well-rounded individuals who are physically active, mentally sharp, and socially responsible. 

Taken together, these stories tell a larger story: UMT thrives as a beacon of excellence, combining education, research, and community engagement to tackle local and global challenges.
