RAUB, 8 October 2025 – A total of 60 student leaders from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) took part in a tree-planting programme involving 100 forest trees at Kampung Sia Ulu, Raub, Pahang, as a symbol of their commitment to environmental sustainability and the conservation of the nation’s ecosystem.

The programme saw the planting of native forest species such as Cengal, Meranti, and Keruing, which are well-suited to the East Coast ecosystem. This initiative strengthens ecological awareness and green responsibility among students, while indirectly contributing to the socio-economic growth of the local community.

UMT Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Mohd Izani Mohd Zain, stated that the programme aligns with the Malaysia Madani framework and the Mahasiswa IDAMAN initiative, which emphasise balance between development and environmental preservation.

“UMT students have demonstrated progressive and sustainable leadership. Their efforts reflect a genuine commitment to contributing towards a more sustainable future,” he said.

The group of students were participants of the Kem Kepemimpinan Siswa (KEMSIS) or Student Leadership Camp, where they received training and insights from experts to become effective student leaders who contribute to university excellence and community well-being.

The programme also involved the Kampung Sia Ulu community and staff from the Student Affairs and Alumni Division, forming a collaboration that strengthened ties between the university and the local community.

UMT believes that this initiative will serve as a catalyst for more student-led green actions. It reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who are environmentally conscious and ready to drive positive change in society.
