UMT’s Centre for Graduate Entrepreneurship and Employability (UMT-GEM) organized the Celik Usahawan 1.0 on 17 December at Sultan Mizan Hall.
The programme was intended for students taking the MPU3223 (Entrepreneurship) subject, with the objective of gathering information about the businesses run by these students during the course of their study at UMT. The information was needed for measuring the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 1 – Entrepreneurship that has been set by the Ministry of Higher Education.
A total of 995 students participated in the programme, proving that it was well-received.
The programme began with the introduction to UMT-GEM by UMT-GEM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azizul Yadi Yaakop. Next, students were guided on how to furnish the details regarding their businesses.
A sharing session was also held involving UMT student entrepreneur icons, Muhammad Haris Syahmi Hashim and Muhammad Al-Amin Zulkifli. The session was intended to motivate the students to continue running their businesses even after they have completed the subject.
Also present during the programme to participate in a sharing session were Dr. Mohd Saari Abd. Rahman, Chairman of UMT Student Cooperative Berhad (KOSISWA) and a representative from RHB Bank Kuala Terengganu.
“Student attendance was encouraging, and the programme helped us to gather more information for the KPI,” Dr. Azizul said.
First year tourism management student Nurqareema Delailah Murad thought highly of the programme.
“Through this Celik Usahawan 1.0, I am now able to see that entrepreneurship can be a career choice after graduation,” she said.
Considering the impact of the programme, UMT-GEM intended to organize Celik Usahawan as annual event.
