KUALA NERUS, 13 March – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) continues to strengthen its role as a caring institution by distributing 300 Ramadan baskets and 1,200 containers of bubur lambuk to the campus and local communities in conjunction with the arrival of the blessed month.
The programme was part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative implemented by UMT in collaboration with Nestlé Malaysia, which donated ingredients for the preparation of bubur lambuk to be distributed to the community.
UMT Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr. Suriyani Muhamad, stated that the programme reflects the university’s commitment to assisting those in need, particularly the underprivileged, orphans, and communities around the Kuala Nerus district campus.
“Every year, UMT strives to enliven Ramadan with charitable activities. This programme not only benefits the recipients but also strengthens the bond between university members and the local community,” she said.
Representing UMT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, Prof. Suriyani also expressed appreciation for the corporate sector’s concern towards UMT community’s welfare. She emphasized the importance of strengthening these partnerships to establish strategic collaborations in various programmes for sustainability, welfare, and education.
A total of 300 Ramadan baskets containing essential items such as milk, instant noodles, chocolate-based products, and other food supplies were distributed to eligible underprivileged recipients. Meanwhile, 1,200 containers of bubur lambuk were handed out to students, staff, and community members entering the UMT campus.
Nestlé Malaysia’s Group Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, YM Raja Nurmaria Murni Raja Nur Azmi, stated that this contribution is part of the company’s efforts to foster a sense of togetherness and help ease the burden of the community during Ramadan.
The participation of volunteers from among UMT students and staff in the preparation of bubur lambuk and the distribution of aid reflects the spirit of teamwork and compassion within the campus community.
The bubur lambuk distribution was held at the main entrance of the UMT campus and was officiated by UMT Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), with the presence of representatives from Nestlé Malaysia and the university’s management team.
One of the recipients, Akmal Haikal, 21, from the Bachelor of Accounting programme, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the assistance provided.
“Programmes like this help lighten our financial burden, especially during Ramadan, and I truly appreciate it,” he said.
