UMT welcomes 2,060 new students

Kuala Nerus, 1 October 2024 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) welcomed the arrival of 2.060 new students who registered for bachelor’s degree programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session.

 

The students come from various background and hail from different states throughout Malaysia. Among the students who have managed to continue their study at UMT are four Orang Asli teenagers.

 

Interestingly a student came alone a day earlier than the others due to a financial factor.

 

Tracey Francis, 20, a student from the Bachelor of Biological Science programme and who hails from Baram, Sarawak, chose an earlier flight because the ticket was cheaper than for later dates.

 

“I came alone to register today. I arrived a day earlier because I wanted to buy a cheaper ticket”.

 

The son of a palm oil factory supervisor showed a high commitment to furthering his study at UMT for the sake of having a better future.

 

Also being at the centre of attention during the physical registration session at Sultan Mizan Hall, UMT, was the sight of an older student.

 

In addition, another student also attracted the attention of many. He is the oldest student who registered for the current session.

 

Mohd Azamuddin Mat Yaman is 38 years old and hails from Kg. Bukit Tok Hat, Setiu, and he will be following the Bachelor of Computer Science (Mobile Computing).

 

According to the father of two sons aged 9 and 10, he was very excited when he received the offer from UMT.

 

“10 years after having completed my diploma, I became interested in expanding my career and my passion in technology motivated me to continue my study at the degree level. The support given by my family and colleagues at work was also an important factor in my decision to continue my study for 3 years and 6 months at UMT.

 

Meanwhile, UMT Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof. Dr. Mohd Izani Mohd Zain congratulated the new students who just became part of UMT community.

 

“Congratulations to the new students. Remain steadfast in your academic journey at UMT for the sake of an excellent future,” said Prof. Mohd Izani in his speech during the registration session.

 

UMT has achieved excellence at the global level in various fields including marine, science, and technology. UMT is currently listed in Asia’s best university rankings, which reflects the university’s dedication towards contributing to the global development and innovation.
