Kuala Nerus, 11 October – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has created another history by setting up the first trading centre in the East Coast, UMT-CGS East Coast Trading Centre, in collaboration with CGS International Securities Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. The centre was formed to enhance financial, investment, and banking education and provide students with practical skills relevant to industry’s needs in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).
Through the trading centre, students will be directly trained to use the latest technology employed in the global financial market to enable them to master capital market transactions, risk management, and investment analysis.
In addition, the facility also offers trading simulations that provide the experience of the real capital market situation, provide students with valuable practical experience as close as possible to the real work world.
With the centre’s establishment, UMT will be able to produce more competent and more competitive graduates, especially in the fields of finances and investment. With the centre’s existence, UMT will be able to strengthen its collaborations with the financial industry and provide the opportunities for students to obtain direct experience at the dynamic and ever expanding sector.
According to UMT Vice Chancellor Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim, the trading centre will provide benefits to 3,076 students at the Faculty of Business, Economy, and Social Development, particularly those from the Bachelor of Economy (Environmental Resources), Bachelor of Marketing Management and Bachelor of Finance.
“The trading centre not only provides the opportunity for students to sharpen their investment and market analysis skills, but also paves the way for collaborations with the industry.”
“Therefore, I greatly hope that the establishment of the trading centre through the collaboration between UMT and CGS International Securities and involvement from the Malaysian Association of Technical Analysis (MATA) will increase the interest and motivation of the students to obtain investment knowledge and improve their comprehension of share investment’s potentials, risks, and profits,” said Prof. Zamri during his speech at the MoU signing ceremony and opening ceremony of UMT-CGS East Coast Trading Centre held at UMT.
The strategic partnership will enable students to interact with finance professionals, investment firms, and industry experts, who will provide valuable guidance in understanding the global capital market trends and dynamics.
Commenting further, Prof. Zamri said the trading centre is also open to the public especially the East Coast community.
“It will create a big opportunity to those interested in the financial and investment fields but do not have access to the platform or the right guidance,” he said.
With the initiative, it is hoped that more individuals from various backgrounds will enjoy the benefits and learn how to become involved in the financial market and subsequently contribute to the local economic growth, he added.
