Kuala Terengganu, 16 September 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has once again made history by being entrusted as co-host of the Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia (MASUM) Sports Carnival 2025, taking place from 15 to 20 September.

A total of 2,342 athletes and officials from 20 public universities nationwide have gathered in Terengganu to compete in this biennial carnival, featuring 10 core sports: volleyball, beach volleyball, lawn bowls, softball, petanque, chess, silat, taekwondo, archery, and karate.

UMT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Zamri Ibrahim said the organisation of MASUM 2025 is not just a sporting competition but an important platform to strengthen the university’s reputation.

“This is the second time UMT is hosting the MASUM Sports Carnival. This year’s edition is even more special as we share the stage with UniSZA. The event elevates UMT’s image as a university that excels not only in academics but also in sports,” he said.

He also stressed that the sports event reflects how universities cultivate leadership, fighting spirit, resilience, discipline, and teamwork among students.

UMT’s success as co-host of MASUM 2025 adds to its growing achievements, further solidifying its position as a global reference centre in marine science and aquatic resources, while also excelling in areas such as research, innovation, industry collaboration, and holistic student development.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Director General Datuk Professor Dr. Azlinda Azman, who officiated the event, said the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) remains committed to strengthening sports development in higher learning institutions.

“The MASUM Sports Carnival is not just a platform for competition, but also a stage to discover new student talent with the potential to bring glory to the nation at the international level,” she said.
