KUALA NERUS — A proud achievement has been made by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) once again when its student, Wong Chee Yew, captured the attention of the judging panel and received the highest jury votes in the Bijak Pitch-i! 2025 Competition, held in conjunction with the Bursa Marketplace Fair 2025 at Mayang Mall.

The Bachelor of Finance (Honours) student was also announced as one of the top five finalists in the prestigious competition, proving the capability of UMT students to compete alongside participants from other higher education institutions at the national level.

Bijak Pitch-i! is a high-impact platform organized by Bursa Malaysia that tests participants’ skills in equity research, financial analysis, and their ability to present investment proposals confidently and professionally to industry judges. The competition also provides students with the opportunity to assess the performance of listed companies and propose sustainable, ethical, and value-based investment ideas.

In the final round, Wong Chee Yew delivered a strong analytical presentation emphasizing ethical and sustainable investing, which impressed the panel of judges. Based on the overall evaluation, he received three jury votes and was awarded RM1,000 in Bursa Digital Gold as recognition of his outstanding performance.

According to Wong Chee Yew, the achievement was not only a valuable experience but also deepened his passion for finance and research.

“Winning in Bijak Pitch-i taught me that investing is not just about numbers, but about understanding businesses, managing risks, applying knowledge in real situations, and thinking with long-term confidence. I am truly grateful to my lecturers and mentors for their guidance. This experience has truly inspired and strengthened my passion for the world of finance and research,” he said.

Wong Chee Yew’s success reflects UMT’s commitment to enhancing financial and investment education through practical approaches and real-world exposure.

The Bursa Marketplace Fair 2025 is a continuation of Investment Day: Bursa x UMT, part of UMT’s initiative to strengthen financial literacy in the East Coast region through the establishment of the UMT Trading Centre.

This centre is the first investment training and simulation facility of its kind among public universities in the East Coast region, providing access to real market data and hands-on training for both students and the community.

UMT remains committed to providing inclusive, relevant, and industry-driven learning opportunities, particularly in the fields of investment, finance, and capital markets.
